I don't know where today went...

Meditation: Day 19 - Living Life With Love

(Chopra Center 21-Day Meditation Challenge: Shedding the Weight

Synopsis: In today’s meditation, we learn about the transformative power of love.
Love is the essence of the true self. If you can act from a space of love, you bypass the judgments and burdens of the ego. So expressing compassion, forgiveness, kindness, and a sense of purpose comes easily.
Love expresses itself with tenderness, but it also provides great inner strength.

Centering Thought: I find myself in a world created by love.

Mantra: Aham Prema (I am love.)

Quote: “This world is in deep trouble, but it can be swiftly healed by the balm of love." ― Rumi

"The present moment, if you think about it, is the only time there is. No matter what time it is, it is always now." - Marianne Williamson

Living without intention is easy to do, especially when we feel over scheduled, overworked, overwhelmed and pressured to perfect, perform, and please. We leave one place to get to the next and we often don't know how we got there - we couldn't name what  people or colors we saw along the way even if we tried. Days, weeks, and years of our lives slip us by, unattended and unexamined. And then we are left looking back at our lives with a mixture of disbelief, anger, sadness, and regret.

Living doesn't need to be this way. We cannot rid life of its pain, but we can surely bring attention and intention to our moments. In a time of heightened distraction and a myriad of things beckoning our attention, slowing down and observing can feel lazy if not negligent and indulgent. Ironically, it isn't until we stop, take a deep breath, and ground ourselves in the present moment that we can truly attend fully to things as well as make decisions about prioritizing what is truly worth paying attention to and investing our energies in.

We cannot change what was, but we can set ourselves up to be in the best place for looking back on a meaningful past by being fully here in this present moment. Distracting or denying ourselves the experience of fully feeling - of seeing, smelling, hearing, and tasting - the right now in our lives sets us up for building up layers of unprocessed experience that stagnates in our bodies, un-metabolized by our spirit. By living in the moment, we conquer the anxieties of life and let them flow through us rather than getting caught within us.

Each moment is all we need and all we ever have for sure.

  • Place a few raisins in a bowl in front of you. Close your eyes and breathe slowly and deeply, observing and the breath enters and exits your body.
  • Take a single raisin in your fingers and note the texture of it.
  • Slowly bring the raisin to your nose and see whether you can smell it.
  • Place the raisin on your tongue and let it sit there for a few moments before chewing.
  • With your eyes still closed, resolve to see everything as though it were the first time you were seeing them.
  • Upon opening your eyes, observe the raisin.
  • Repeat these steps, effortlessly tuning back into your senses when you feel your attention drifting.
Mantra: Be. Here. Now. Be here now.
