Today's meditation was all about taking ownership and responsibility for our personal stories:

In a culture of rampant victimhood and blame, it can feel frightening to take accountability and responsibility for the present condition of our lives and the direction in which our lives are heading. This is especially difficult when we feel that life has dealt us a difficult hand or when circumstances feel unjust and insurmountable. Yet, without acknowledging that ways in which we have contributed to our present situation, we are forever prisoners to the competing forces of the universe and those around us. By assuming a passive role in our lives, we give up our opportunities to steer our lives in the direction of our dreams and instead fall prey to the universal and other-directed winds of change.

Before we can be empowered to change course, it is imperative that we honestly own our stories first. Without taking stock of what was and what is, we may forever fall prey to mirages or, like an ostrich, have our head in the sand when attempting to make a change. Without accepting our past and our present, we may miss the guiding North stars in our lives or fail to see lighthouses and crash into rocky shores.

Owning and accepting our lives does not mean that we agree or like what has been and what is. It simply is a grounded acknowledgment of what has made us who we are today.

Refuse to be a minor player in your life. All heroes face struggle before triumph, and we - like them - can be the heroes of our own life stories.

When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”
