What Fills Your Cup?

January 1st, 2018

A friend recently shared an analogy about life that I will paraphrase for you:

Let's say you are holding a cup of coffee. Somebody bumps into you, and out spills your coffee - all over the other person and yourself (and your surrounding environment).

How come you spilled coffee?

You might say that it was because somebody bumped into you.

But the real reason that coffee got everywhere is that there was coffee in your cup!

If you had tea or hot chocolate or water - or whatever else - in your cup, that substance would spill out.

In other words, whatever is inside (your "cup") is what will spill out.

So the next time somebody (or LIFE) bumps into you or otherwise rattles you, whatever is inside you is what will spill out.

You might be able to put on a facade and pretend and "play the part" in your day-to-day life... until you get shaken.

So what fills your cup?

When life gets challenging and obstacles arise, what spills over?

Is it love, optimism, creativity, and hope?

Or is it resentment, bitterness, apathy, and anger?

What do you need to empty your cup of? (Remember you must dispose of what you don't want before you can fill up with what you do!).

How do you plan on discarding the unwanted?

And what do you want to fill your cup with?

How do you plan on filling your cup up with those things?

If You Stand For Nothing, You'll Fall For Everything

January 30th, 2018

... And along those lines, goals and actualization are accomplished not with wishbones but with backbones.

It is so easy to live life in default mode, taking the path of least resistance, living in the trance-like state of habit energy. Remember that (bad) habits that are at first cobwebs soon turn into steel wire, handcuffing us in their grasp.

Take some time today to get clear on what you want in your life and why.

What do you (want to) stand for?

How are you going to stand up for and inhabit what you believe in and the person you want to be?

What gets (and has gotten) in the way?

Write does your answers to these questions.

Pick ONE action step and do it TODAY.

Don't stop dreaming, but DO start living - consciously, with awareness, on your terms.

Are you Hibernating or Hiding?

January 29th, 2018

According to Dictionary.com, to hibernate is "to spend the winter in close quarters in a dormant condition" or "to withdraw or be in seclusion; retire." This is common in winter and necessary for all human being - particularly introverts - throughout the year.

Meanwhile, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary to hide is to "to put out of sight"; "to keep secret hide the truth"; "to screen from"; or even "to turn (the eyes or face) away in shame or anger".

Which one are you practicing this winter - and in your life in general? How can you tell?

Everyday Is Your Birthday

January 28th, 2018

Today - and every day - is a birth-day for each and every one of us because it represent a time - and an opportunity - for rebirth in our lives.

Take a risk.

What will you do with today's as of yet unborn and un-lived time?
