The Differences Between Fairness And Equality
Fairness is when we give others dignity and respect. When we fail to do these things, not only are we being unfair to others, but we are also being unfair to ourselves and undermining our own dignity and self-respect. Fairness is not a handout or an excuse for someone's behavior. It is simply the ability for all to be seen and heard and to possess the chance to make a contribution and a difference.
Equality is not synonymous with equal. Equality does not mean that you get to be a starting quarterback on the NFL or snag a multi-million dollar record deal. Rather, equality simply signifies equal access - the ability for each person to do his or her best without being excluded for inapplicable or otherwise biased reasons.
