One Decision

March 5th, 2018

One Decision

People often assume that they need to make drastic changes in order for their lives to change drastically.

Some people believe that things, people, and circumstances outside themselves need to change considerably in order for their lives to change.

This second belief is even more fulfilling because is turns us into victims and undermines out innate and inherent power and ability to make choices.

The reality is that we have so much more mastery over our lives than we lead ourselves to believe.

And while there are circumstances beyond our control, we have tremendous ability to shape the direction in which our lives proceed and the conditions of our lives now.

Most of all, drastic, dramatic changes don't need to occur in order for our lives to change.

"One day at a time" is an adage used in a lot of recovery circles.

But from talking with many people in recovery from a variety of addictions, it seems like one moment at a time is closer to the reality.

And if you mess up, you do not have to wait until the next day to try again.

It is all about doing the next best right thing.

You are always one decision away from a totally different life.
